Akwaaba is proud to be Perth's original and longest running supplier of authentic, hand carved African djembes and Bolga Baskets.  Operating since 1996, we also stock a wide range of African handicraft, textiles, clothing, musical instruments, books and lots more!

The majority of our products are sourced from Ghana and are purchased directly from the person who has carved, woven, sewn or made it.  So when you purchase from Akwaaba you know that your money is helping support families and communities in Africa.  All our products have a story to tell - from the carvings on our djembes to the journey of the Bolga baskets making it to market to be sold.

All our djembes are sold already tuned by Kofi who is a professional djembe teacher and performer.  If, after some time it needs a retune, you're always welcome to bring it back and have us check it.  If you already have a drum that needs reskinning we are able to put a new skin on and tune it.

We currently trade at the Wanneroo Markets (Shop 68/69) in Wangara, Fridays-Sundays from 9.30am to 4.00pm.  As the djembes are all hand made (carved in Ghana, skinned by Kofi here in Perth) every one will look and sound different. We encourage you to come into the shop and have a play so that you find a drum that you like the sound and also look of.
