::: School & Early Learning Workshops

~ Akwaaba’s unique school/early learning workshops are aimed to introduce all students from pre-primary through to high school age to the educational and fun aspects of music.

The sessions are formulated to:

  • Encourage students to work together as a team
  • Enhance hand-eye coordination
  • Enhance creativity through dance
  • Enhance listening skills
  • Expose students to musical traditions from West Africa and the role music plays within the West African culture
  • Release stress
  • Overcome inhibitions and promote confidence
  • Develop fine and gross motor skills
  • Break down social, gender, age and cultural differences
  • Foster left/right brain integration

Akwaaba's team of experienced percussionists and dancers will ensure that students feel comfortable to explore their own curiosities about West African music. Akwaaba builds a positive energy through communication with the students, who then feel empowered to contribute their skills through self-expression with a variety of percussive instruments such as djembe, shakers and bells. Akwaaba brings the relaxed, dynamic and spirited African learning environment full of energy into your school/learning centre with stories, songs, dance and laughter.

The duration of early learning/school sessions can last anywhere between 30 minutes to a week or more, depending on the outcome identified by each school/class or learning centre.
